When legendary comic book writer Stan Lee conceived The Incredible Hulk back in 1962, he intended the character’s skin colour to be gray so as not to suggest a particular ethnic background. But all that changed during the printing process. Comic book colourist Stan Goldberg had trouble producing a consistent shade of gray, resulting in different shades of gray—and even green—throughout the comic book. Upon seeing the results, Lee decided to change The Hulk’s skin colour to green for future issues. And the rest is history.
